no reason to pretend

b. 1986, HK.

I'm Stephen Kearse, a freelance reporter and critic, and full-time copy editor.  I tend to write about music, movies, books, and American history. I also occasionally write about language, television, food, video games, and technology. I just…like writing! My debut novel, In the Heat of the Light, is available in print and as an e-book via Brain Mill Press. Order it here.

I no longer blog, so following me on Twitter or setting up a Google Alert are your best bets if you want to keep up with my work. If you're not a tweeter (good for you, homie), I'm available via Google's mail service at "sfkearse."

My writing portfolio can be found here, and here are my author pages for Pitchfork, The Nation, Complex, and The Baffler.   I've been at this for a while, so keep your eye on that timestamp if anything you read seems funky. It's been a process.

See you around and thanks for reading.
